Curriculum

The curriculum at Mullein Hill follows the Massachusetts Frameworks in order to provide a seamless transition for students leaving and entering the public school system. In selected subjects, we continue to use Abeka, Bob Jones, or ACSI Christian curriculum. All secular texts are reviewed and evaluated extensively by teachers and approved by the Board of Directors. As always, we strive to provide a challenging education that is presented with a Christian world view.

Art

All students, Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade participate in art class. Students learn age-appropriate techniques and complete projects. The children are exposed to various mediums, including paint, watercolor, pencil, and chalk. Work is exhibited throughout the year at various functions. Students are encouraged to use their artistic talents to serve the community.

Chapel

Chapel meets each Wednesday in the church sanctuary at 8:45am. Every chapel will be an all-school assembly. The last Wednesday of each month is an awards chapel where students receive character trait awards and star students are recognized. During chapel time students are encouraged to worship and spend time in God's Word. Weekly speakers include pastors, missionaries, youth workers, and members from local churches as well as students and teachers. Students participate in lessons, music, and skits. Parents are welcome to attend this weekly time of worship.

Computer

Students in grades 1-8 participate in computer class. In the younger grades, Microsoft Word skills are taught. Middle schoolers continue to work on more advanced Microsoft Word skills as well as developing a proficiecy of keyboarding. Timed drills are administered and typing techniques are practiced. In addition, older students work in Excel and PowerPoint.

Health

A Bible based curriculum is used for grades 1-8. This is a graded course that meets once a week.

Music

Students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade participate in music classes weekly. Music lessons are prepared according to the Massachusetts Frameworks. Students learn about different periods of music and composers. The students participate in two musicals a year at Christmas and in the spring.
